Hue and Hoi An are both great cities in Central Vietnam that are famous for their UNESCO listed World Heritage Sites. Hue is the former capital of Vietnam during the reign of the last dynasty – Nguyen dynasty that lasted for more than a century. Hoi An on the other hand, is an old Southeast Asian trading port that is spectacularly well-preserved. Locals and foreigners have different opinions on the best way to get from Hue to Hoi An. The usual recommendation you’ll hear from the receptionist of your hostel would be to take the bus from Hue to Hoi An. Though this may be a good idea if you are working on a budget and do not mind long hours on a crowded bus with several stops to pick up passengers along the way. Getting from Hue to Hoi An on an old Honda Win is perfect for adrenaline junkies who are willing to ride a 121 kilometer high way with nice view. Motorbike rental is $25 without a driver and petrol included, take this if and only if you are a great motorbike rider. Backpackers who simply feel like they are good driver ends up in hospital and paying more. You can get a driver to go with you, this will make you feel safer and costs $40 per person.
If you are traveling with someone, the motorbike adventure is mostly likely not the best option for you as it will cost you more. Not including the fact that your back will definitely hurt and high tendency of getting sunburn. This is why the best to get from Hue to Hoi An is still by car. A private transfer from Hue to Hoi An is convenient, safe and with reasonable price around $59 – $69 depending on the quality of car.
